Set for February 26, 2006
David “Fathead” Newman headlines event featuring three
stages, three lifetime achievement awards and silent auction
fundraiser at the Doubletree Hotel, highways 394 & 100
in St. Louis Park.
The Jazz88 Twin Cities Winter Jazz Fest returns on Sunday,
February 26, 2006, at the Doubletree Hotel-Park
Place in Minneapolis.
Saxophone great David “Fathead” Newman leads a
lineup featuring be-bop, big band, swing and world music. Newman
was a longtime sax man for Ray Charles, and his muscular,
meaty tone can be heard on hits like “What'd I Say” and
“Hit the Road Jack.” Newman's 2005 release
“I Remember Brother Ray” is a highly lauded tribute to
his late friend and musical collaborator.
In addition to mainstage performances by Newman and
outstanding Twin Cities and national acts, the Twin Cities Jazz
Society Big Band Stage will feature the Cedar Avenue Big
Band with vocalist Debbie Duncan and the Youth Stage
in the lounge will spotlight student groups and more.
